Position Title:             Lead Horticulturist

Lead Horticulturist provides leadership support and training to Horticulturists and Grounds Staff in the routine maintenance of interior and exterior ornamental plantings and ensures appropriate and safe application of pesticides and fertilizers, when needed.

Assists the Grounds Supervisor in working with various operational areas to design dynamic seasonal flower beds and landscaping for interior and exterior resort areas.

Assists in procurement of plant materials to meet planting schedules and timelines.

Maintains updated MSDS for all pesticides and chemicals used and ensures compliance with standards.

Consistently selects, propagates and grows plant materials for ornamental use on and around the golf course, and interior and exterior of all Resort properties.

Routinely installs and maintains low pressure irrigation systems for proper landscaping procedures.

Establishes, maintains and documents appropriate schedules of cleaning, pruning and fertilizing all potted plant materials and interior and exterior gardens.

Takes special care to ensure interior irrigation and pesticide application are appropriate for the facility.                                                                                                 

The selected candidate will possess the following job requirements:

Requires an Associate’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Design, Ecology or related field.

2 years experience in commercial landscape design or maintenance is preferred.

Previous supervisor or leadership experience preferred.

Requires knowledge of the characteristics, growth habit and proper cultivation of a wide selection of flowering bulbs and annual, biennial, and perennial plant materials including both herbaceous and woody plants.

Requires knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, soil conditioners and pest control methods and materials.

Certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator required.

Grounds Superintendent assists the Director in the planning and maintenance of the grounds as well as other assigned areas pertaining to the property of Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

Job Description:  Responsible for the maintenance of all annual and perennial beds around the clubhouse area and throughout the golf course.  Must be able to design and order the plantings.  Responsible for the job assignments of staff personnel under the horticulturist supervision.

Job Title:           Division Manager 

Status:  Exempt         Department:      Irrigation    Reports To:       Vice President-Operations 

BASIC FUNCTION:    To direct and supervise the safe work of assigned irrigation team members, provide irrigation support services for other company divisions, and develop additional business leads outside of current customer portfolio.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Estimate new projects and prepare proposals for irrigation projects.

2.       Develop standard operating procedures, irrigation service programs, and production standards for irrigation division.

3.       Ensure assigned daily work schedule runs smoothly and is completed in an efficient manner.

4.       Assure irrigation team members are operating equipment in a safe manner and using proper safety equipment at all times.

5.       Ensure trucks and equipment are secured while on job sites.

6.       Ensure proper maintenance of company equipment and vehicles and report all accidents/damage/malfunctions to management immediately.

7.       Report all injuries and occupational related illnesses immediately to management.

8.       Prepare and maintain all required records and reports in an accurate and timely manner to include hourly labor performed by irrigation team members.

9.       Train irrigation team members on safety rules and regulations, equipment operation, equipment maintenance and irrigation best practices in accordance with company procedures.

10.   Communicate and discuss any account problems with management team to insure consistent quality levels.

11.   Must be able to lift a minimum of 65 lbs.

12.   Establish and monitor ongoing training sessions for service techs and installers.

13.   Perform other related issues as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Valid Drivers License – Must meet insurance underwriting requirements. Must have CT J-4 license or enter apprentice program.

Head Mechanic Wanakah Country Club  

Job Summary: Responsible for proper equipment repairs to all equipment used in maintaining a golf course. Must keep an equipment repair log and other necessary records. Responsible for ordering needed parts and supply.

Skills: Must be able to do light electrical diagnostics, welding and knowledge with gasoline and diesel engines.  Work on hydraulics, 2 and 4 cycle engines as well as introductory reel and bed knife grinding.  

Requirements: Maintain equipment in top running condition.  Work with others on the crew, help teach proper equipment techniques and be able to work on the course when needed.  

Benefits:  Health insurance, holiday pay, 401k- employer matches up to 3%  

Compensation:  $32,000 to $34,000 per year plus over-time at time an a half

WORK SCHEDULE:                   5 days per week – 8 hour days, including weekends          Variable Hours

 OVERVIEW OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:    Under the direction of the Park Manager, the Park Worker 3 performs semi-skilled and unskilled park maintenance tasks.  The tasks will include general carpentry, plumbing and masonry.  They will also include operating, maintaining and repairing a variety of power driven equipment such as, trucks, tractors, mowers and small engines.  The incumbent will perform ground and trail maintenance and cleaning activities.  He/she may also assign, review, train and evaluate the work of other employees.  Under the direction of the supervisor, the Park Worker may be required to perform a variety of golf course maintenance tasks, including but not limited to, mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughs, raking sand traps, aerating and other related golf course activities.   In the absence of the Park Manager, the Park Worker 3 may supervise the operation of the park.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Two years experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, or recreational facility; OR two years experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson, or completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.

 OPERATING NEEDS:

*Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license. *Must possess a NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B  or obtain one within the probationary period at his/her own expense.

 *Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive.  The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment and random post-employment drug and alcohol testing.

 * Must possess and maintain Certified Pesticide Applicator’s License for Tuft and Ornamental or obtain one during the probationary period.
